First of all...wow have I not blogged in awhile.  Well I guess that means no one has missed me.

So this blog will be a little off topic.  Normally I try to stick to the task at hand (comics), but this is something that I just find interesting.

The other day I was reading an article that talks about how the Majority (whites) will become the Minority by 2050 in the US.  We won't become the minority to one group, but to all groups combined.

It doesn't really bother me as it was ineviteable.  When you have a handful of groups adding to the population vs 1 group the law of numbers will catch up with you.

But here is an interesting tie-in.  The opening night of the Olympics my wife and I were watching the countries come walking in.  To me this is the best part of the ceremony...getting to see all of the countries, big and small.

When the US walked in (which was towards the end as usual) she commented how we (the US) truly are a melting pot.  When watching most of the previous countries, it is obvious that they all look the same.  But when the US walked in we have so many different countries on our team that it is incredible.

I have also noticed a lot more imigrants from India in my area.  We have several families in my neighborhood, and there are several food stores within about 10 miles.  Because of our down ecomony and weak dollar I am assuming that now is a perfect time to come over.

It is sad though that we cannot have a "national" language.  Every other country has a national language (or two as in Canada).  There is a private school south of here that has instituted an English only policy.  Well they are being sued by 4 Mexican families (legal) that it is illegal.  They seem to forget that it is a private school and no one is forcing them to go there.

I guess everyone wants to come to the US for the American Dream...too bad we are fucking it up with the economy and everything.

  • maybe it's just me, but it seems that, to a point, everyone comes in search of the american dream but gradually just turns the country into wherever they moved from.
they want the american dream but they want it in there country.

ok, after reading what i just typed, it doesn't make much sense. but i know what i meen.

  • just pointing out...that would make everyone in the United States a Minority with whites as being the largest minority....they should make English the national language and force everyone to speak it (now, just because i like English being all over the place in Japan doesnt make me a hypocrite)

i can read what you typed as well 1573

  • My $0.01 (I won't take up room for my whole $0.02), 1) There is nothing new under the sun. This is the same immigration debate that has been going on since the US was founded, we just now are experiencing immigrants with radically different ethnic backgrounds and religions. My grandparents still spoke German until my mom started school. 2) The language thing kind of bothers me, but in the spirit of "Americans can do anything", why don't more Americans know enough Spanish to understand Spanish speakers? Has anyone noticed on the news that practically every country knows English? Who's at a disadvantage here? Finally 3) If I see any more Central Americans with f-ing Mexican flags on their cars, or hear about them driving without a license, I will start going vigilante, and it won't be pretty. Mostly kidding.
